NI Water has been Highly Commended in the Corporate Community Champion category at the Belfast Telegraph Business Awards 2024.

Winners were announced across 19 categories at a glittering awards ceremony on Thursday 2nd May 2024 in Belfast’s Crown Plaza Hotel. Around 500 people attended, including Economy Minister Conor Murphy, and the event was hosted by BBC’s Mark Simpson.

NI Water was Highly Commended for its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy through which it is making an outstanding contribution to environmental sustainability, social equality, community education and volunteering in Northern Ireland.

Paula Graham, NI Water’s Head of Culture, Engagement and Learning, said:

“To be Highly Commended means there is huge recognition for the outstanding work that goes on within our teams to leave things better than we found them, contributing to the long-term sustainability of our environment, society and the communities we serve.”

NI Water’s award entry this year included an overview of its work to maximise the impact it makes on the community it serves, including:

  • NI Water’s long-established Cares Challenge employee volunteering programme. To date, over 1,600 NI Water colleagues have participated in over 100 challenges, providing over 12,000 hours of community help
  • Educating the next generation on key environmental and health messages via NI Water’s double decker Waterbus mobile classroom reaching 31,600 children each year and 300,000 children to date
  • Helping those in crisis through fundraising initiatives for emergency appeals such as the Turkey/Syrian earthquake and Ukraine; also leading the local Water Aid NI committee raising money to help global communities suffering from life limiting water scarcity.
  • Levelling Up Northern Ireland, in partnership with local community groups to provide accessible employment opportunities for all
