Alpha Project

The Water Treatment (Alpha) Project is upgrading existing Water Treatment facilities at Ballinrees, Dunore Point, Forked Bridge, Moyola, and includes three link mains.


Representing approximately 50% of Northern Ireland’s water production, the upgrades are taking place under a design, build, finance and operate (PFI / DBFO) contract between Northern Ireland Water and the successful bidder, Dalriada Water Limited.  

Dalriada Water Limited was awarded the Alpha contract in May 2006 because it was successful in providing significant benefits to Northern Ireland Water and its customers in terms of reduced costs, risks and time to the achievement of EU water quality compliance.  Dalriada Water brings together a number of local and international organisations who have demonstrated substantial experience and a proven track record in the delivery of projects of this nature.   

The consortium is responsible for operating and maintaining the water treatment facilities for a period in the region of 25 years.
