Bogus callers
If we’re carrying out repair or maintenance work, our employees may need access to your property. For your own safety, always ask for proof of identification. All our staff carry identity cards with their photograph on.
Remember bogus callers may try to trick you by saying there’s an urgent problem with your water.
If you are in any doubt about the validity of a caller claiming to be from Northern Ireland Water, DO NOT let them into you property, call your local police station immediately or Waterline: 0845 744 0088
Any member of our staff requiring access to your home or land will carry photographic identification and an authorisation. You can confirm the holder’s identity by contacting Waterline 08457 440088. Remember, don’t be afraid to check the ID. Genuine callers won’t mind waiting while you do. And NEVER allow anyone access to your home unless you are sure of who they are. If you phone Waterline to check the ID please note the:
- Name
- Serial number
- Date of issue
Our Customer Service staff will check the card details. The Waterline number should also be on the back of the ID. The same message applies to phone calls from people claiming to be from Northern Ireland Water and asking for bank details. Do not give this information out over the phone. Simply hang up and report the call to the police or Waterline.
Beware of bogus officials - always ask to see identification. Northern Ireland Water employees all carry identity cards.
