Frozen pipes can cause major disruption to you and your home. You could find yourself without water, being forced to brave the cold because your central heating stops working or having to deal with an expensive clean up operation if your water pipes burst.
However, you can take steps to minimise the risks. We have pulled together some useful information to help you prepare your home for the winter weather including:
- Four short videos which give advice on how to locate your stop valve, insulation, and what to do if a pipe freezes or pipe bursts.
- Guidance on pipework responsibilities

Insulation Advice Video
The video below offers some advice on insulation in your home or business premises
- Insulating your loft - or topping up any insulation you already have - will help to heat your home more efficiently, save energy and reduce your energy bills.
- Easy steps you can take to help prevent pipes freezing in winter are insulating the water pipes and the water tank. If you have toilet cisterns, water tanks or pipes in exposed places or unheated out-buildings, make sure you insulate them. Better still, if not in use, drain them for winter.
