Facts and Figures
There are approximately 795,000 domestic, agricultural, commercial and business properties in Northern Ireland connected to the public water supply and 660,000 connected to the public sewerage system.
We supply 619 million litres of water every day and treat 134 million m³ of wastewater each year.

- We each use approximately 150 litres a day - 1/4 of which to flush the toilet!
- In the last 5 year period we have invested over £1 billion in Northern Ireland - almost £100 for every man, woman and child in the province!
- A garden hose can use almost as much water in an hour as an average family uses in a day.
- A dripping tap can waste 5,500 litres in a year - enough for 55 baths!
- Roughly, only 3% of water brought to your homes is used to drink.
- Our Wetlands are drying out. A recent survey found that almost 70% of them are environmentally threatened.
- Tap water is roughly 1000 times cheaper than bottled, which per litre can be more expensive than petrol!
- Turn the tap off when brushing your teeth - you can save a bucket full every time you brush!
- The average roof collects 85,000 litres a year - enough to fill 450 water butts with water that can be used in the garden or even washing the car!
- It takes about 3 litres of water to make a pint of beer!
- Many people in the world exist on 10 litres of water a day or less. We can use that in one flush of the toilet.
- About 95% of the water that gets delivered to your home goes down the drain.
- Less than 1% of all the water on earth is available for us to use.

- An estimated 25 million refugees are displaced annually by contamination of rivers and river basins, more than are forced to flee from war zones.
