Essential Watermains Improvement Work Planned for Springfield Road, Belfast

09 October 2014 15:43

As part of an ongoing watermains rehabilitation programme across Belfast worth some £10 million, NI Water will be commencing work in the Springfield Road area on Monday 13 October.  In all, work in the area will last for approximately five weeks, although different areas will be affected.

Phase 1 will see a lane closure in place from Farset Enterprise Park to Springmartin Road for approximately two weeks.

Phase 2 will see work at the junction of Springfield Road and Whiterock Road, getting underway on 27 October.  This section of the work will last for approximately one week, and during that period, it will not be possible turn onto Whiterock Road from Springfield Road, although traffic in the opposite direction will be unaffected.  Advance warning and signage will in place, with a diversion via Springfield Road, Falls Road and Whiterock Road or Springfield Road, Monagh By-Pass, Glen Road, Falls Road and Whiterock Road.

Phase 3 will get underway on 3 November and last for approximately two weeks.  A lane closure will be in operation from Springmartin Road to Springfield Park.

Throughout all three phases, two way traffic will be maintained for much of the time.  However, motorists in the area should be prepared for some disruption.  Every effort will be made to keep this to an absolute minimum.  Access will be maintained at all times and there will be no obstruction for pedestrians.  The entire project should be completed by mid-November.

This project is necessary to improve the quality, reliability and security of the local water supply.  Given the nature of the works, it is possible that some customers may experience intermittent disruptions to their water supply between 8am and 6pm.  It may also be necessary to interrupt water supplies in some areas for one full day.  However, customers will receive formal notification in good time if this should be required.

NI Water would again emphasise that this work is not connected in any way with metering, and is merely an upgrade to the local water infrastructure in order to ensure the best quality service and reliability.

Any customer in the area with any queries or concerns should contact NI Water via Waterline on 08457 44 00 88 and quote ‘Farrans Utilities.’
