Sewerage

All household customers are entitled to connect their drains to the sewerage system, as long as this is practical and they meet the costs.

Making an application
You must apply in writing if you wish to have your property connected to an existing sewer. Your application must also include a location plan (scale 1:2500) and a block plan (scale 1:200) showing the position of the proposed/existing dwelling and the exact location of the house sewer. A Road Opening Certificate is also required if the connection is to be made within a roadway verge or footpath.

We will advise you of our decision to allow you to connect to an existing sewer within 21 days from the date of your application. We can refuse permission for a new connection to our sewers if we think the connection will have a detrimental effect on them. For example, we will not allow a wastewater drain connection to a surface water sewer. Where we approve your application, we will advise you of any related costs or charges you will have to pay, and any conditions which you will need to comply with. Please note all charges must be paid before any work commences.

Once we have agreed to you making the connection, and we have received payment of the charges, you must give us at least five working days notice of the day you or your contractor will do the work. We will then inspect the connection to make sure it meets the required standards.
