Water Efficiency

NI Water takes pride in delivering one of Northern Irelands’ most essential services and last year delivered on average 632 million litres of water to customers.

We all know Northern Ireland is not shy of a few rain drops, however, it is important to remember that this water is not new water, it is and has been recycled for billions of years through the water cycle. So when you think about it, we are actually drinking and using the same water the dinosaurs did!!

We continually monitor levels in reservoirs and try to take steps to maximise water storage.  However, we need our customers to be ‘water wise’ and realise the importance of conserving water.

The diagram below shows the average water usage in one household per day. You will notice that toilet flushing uses the most water and that we use more water to wash dishes than we actually drink!
