Wastewater Treatment Works

Each year Northern Ireland Water collects, treats and disposes safely around 134 million cubic metres of wastewater from 1060 wastewater treatment works. Approximately 83% of households in Northern Ireland are served by the public sewerage system. In addition, we provide a desludging service for over 59,000 private septic tanks.

Wastewater treatment involves a variety of processes which may be of particular interest to students.  Upon request and with appropriate advance notice we can arrange educational visits to one of our wastewater treatment works for school or other groups.
