Welcome to the Kennedy Way Hub Digital Public Information Event.

Northern Ireland Water Ltd (“NI Water”) is in the process of developing plans for the relocation of workshops and stores from Bretland House, Duncrue, Belfast to the former Waste Water Treatment Works (WwTW) at Kennedy Way / Blackstaff Road, Belfast.

The development is required as a consequence of the proposed redevelopment of Bretland House at the Belfast WwTW, Duncrue, to accommodate the improvements associated with the Living With Water Programme.

This website gives you the opportunity to view the proposed plans for the Kennedy Way development, and to leave comments or feedback on the draft design proposals. NI Water would encourage all those with an interest in the proposal to leave their feedback below. Any comments made will be taken on board by the design team in determining the final layout that will be submitted to Belfast City Council in the form of a planning application. NI Water process this personal information under legal obligation {Planning (Development Management) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2015} i.e. the consideration of the effects of the development on a particular property. What is Currently Proposed?

The proposed development will see the partial redevelopment of the former Kennedy Way Waste Water Treatment Works at Blackstaff Road / Kennedy Way, Belfast. The development will incorporate the construction of new Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) workshops, storage, changing facilities, ancillary offices, access improvements, parking, service yards, boundary fencing and landscaping. Detailed drawings are provided below.

The proposal will seek to develop three buildings on the site. These are: 1) the main hub building; 2) a store to hold an alternative bottled water supply; and 3) a generator store.

What Happens Next?

This website will remain live until 27 May 2022 and any comments received up to that point in time will be considered by the design team in determining the final design. Once all of the feedback has been considered and any necessary changes made, the design team will proceed to submit a planning application. It is currently anticipated that the application will be made in mid-2022, although this is subject to change.

It is important to note that any feedback provided on this website is a representation to the applicant (NI Water Ltd), and not to the planning department in Belfast City Council directly. If a planning application is subsequently submitted, normal neighbour notification and publicity will be undertaken and you will have the opportunity to make formal representations regarding the proposal at that time.
