Update On Water Supply Interruptions

18 January 2010 15:24

As a result of the ongoing efforts of NI Water staff over the last week, battling the extraordinary weather conditions, the number of customers experiencing an interruption to water supply has now been significantly reduced.

Approximately 63 customers are estimated to be without water and a further 26 are experiencing intermittent supplies. In addition, 20 further properties may lose supply as repairs to watermains are carried out.

The areas currently affected include Newry, Banbridge, Craigavon, Omagh, Enniskillen, Ballygawley and Dungannon.

Charlie Gallagher, Head of Water Supply with NI Water, talks about the progress:

“To date, we have made significant progress by locating and repairing over 740 burst watermains. As we find them, we repair them. Repairs have also been carried out on 360 service pipes, which connect the public to the watermain, with a further 360 leaking private supplies being isolated.

“We have had a great response from the public in terms of alerting us to burst pipes and leaks. However, we would ask that customers continue to report leaks and bursts to Waterline 08457 440088.”

NI Water is working hard to fully recharge the distribution system and get supplies back to normal and appreciate the continued patience and support from customers while we do this.
