Statement by Padraic White, Interim Chairman of NI Water Board

“The non-executive directors of the interim board of NI Water met today informally with our CEO to be brought up to speed with NI Water affairs in advance of our board meeting in September.

“In particular, we wanted to be brought up to date with the implementation of the Independent Review Team (IRT) recommendations on procurement and we are generally pleased with the progress made.

“Based on everything we’ve seen and the impressive track record and achievements of the CEO, we’re happy to give him our full support and look forward to working with him in the time ahead as CEO of NI Water.

“We will continue to expedite the implementation of the IRT recommendations as we await the report of the Public Accounts Committee into these matters. And of course our own internal disciplinary procedures relating to the findings of the IRT report must be allowed to run their course without prejudice.

“We’re impressed by the admirable efforts of our 1300-plus team in delivering the cleanest and highest-quality water on the island of Ireland to the public and in providing improved sewage treatment services. Our resolve is to improve the delivery of our services while continuing the biggest infrastructural investment ever in our operations in the time ahead ”” amounting to £1m a day over the past three years.”
