Work gets underway at Forkhill WwTW

21 February 2012 11:44

NI Water is pleased to announce that essential work is now underway to upgrade Forkhill Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW).

The work, which represents an investment of almost £2 million by NI Water, will enhance the service provided to the area by reducing the environmental impact of the Works while allowing for future development in the area. The work will also ensure that the plant meets the latest Northern Ireland Environment Agency and EU standards.

The work, which is scheduled for completion in summer 2013, will primarily take place within the existing site at Forkhill WwTW.

Regional Development Minister, Danny Kennedy said: “I very much welcome this announcement by NI Water. It demonstrates the improvements that investment is bringing to our water and sewerage infrastructure. This scheme brings benefits for the local community and the environment.”

Bill Gowdy, Acting Director of Engineering Procurement at NI Water explains:

“This work is good news for the local community as this upgrade work will improve wastewater services in the area and improve the water quality in the nearby Forkhill River.

“It involves increasing the treatment capacity, replacing existing elements of the process and implementing the latest technology to make the plant more energy efficient.”

NI Water and our contractor BSG Civil Engineering Ltd would like to thank residents in the area for their patience and co-operation while we complete this essential work.
