Upper Newtownards Road Flood Alleviation Scheme Resurfacing Works – Saturday 28th / Sunday 29th July 2018

25 July 2018 16:20

NI Water is pleased to announce that all sewer laying work has now been completed on the Upper Newtownards Road. This completes this major flood alleviation scheme for the Upper Newtownards Road/ Knock Road area of East Belfast. The final section of road resurfacing on the Upper Newtownards Road, between Pasadena Gardens and Knockhill Park is programmed for this weekend Saturday 28th / Sunday 29th July.

During these works, the following traffic management arrangements will be in place:-

Saturday 28th July – lane restrictions will be in place along the Upper Newtownards Road with minimal impact on traffic, with a lane remaining open in each direction.

Sunday 29th July - a one-way road closure will be in place for country bound traffic from the Newtownards Road/Holywood Road junction to the Knock Road between 5.00am and 4.30pm.  A diversion route will be clearly signposted via Holywood Road/ Belmont Rd and Hawthornden Way.

Country bound access to the Upper Newtownards Road will remain available only as far Pasadena Gardens in Ballyhackamore. City bound traffic will be maintained and reduced to a single lane.

This infrastructure project involved the upgrade of existing and installation of new sewers and was undertaken to resolve historical internal and external flooding issues. The completion of this project will increase the capacity of the existing sewerage system, as well as reducing the risk of ‘out of sewer’ flooding and environmental pollution in the area.

NI Water and our contractor Dawson Wam would like to thank the public for their continued patience and cooperation throughout this major Flood Alleviation Scheme.

ENDS.
