NI Water ‘Drives’ Down Blocked Sewers

04 December 2018 15:53

NI Water has recently taken delivery of four new state of the art vans designed to aid staff in resolving customer complaints for blocked sewers.

Davy McCullough, Head of Wastewater at NI Water comments, “We have a highly skilled workforce looking after our sewerage system and with this new investment, they now have the tools and equipment needed to resolve reports of blocked sewers first time round.

“These new vans have had specialist bespoke fit-outs and are equipped with high pressure jetting equipment as well as CCTV equipment to identify any faults, blockages or repairs required straight away.

“This move will help us to improve the overall customer experience by resolving the problem more efficiently and also reduce operating costs and the need for third party contractors.

“Our employees are now fully trained to operate the new vehicles and ready to put them to the test, we have no doubt they will be a ‘flushing’ success!”

Each day, NI Water battle to keep our sewers free from inappropriate items but we cannot win this on our own. We are doing our part but we need the help of our customers. All we ask is that everyone stick to one simple rule, only flush the 3 p’s, pee, poo and paper; everything else needs to go in the bin.

In the last ten years, NI Water has spent over £1.5 billion investing in water and wastewater infrastructure but no amount of investment or equipment will completely stop blocked pipes if people continue  to flush wipes (including flushable), sanitary items and cotton buds down the toilet.
