Sicily/Marguerite Park Flood Alleviation - Ground Investigation Works Commence

13 February 2019 10:34

NI Water has commenced ground investigation works in this area in advance of this major Flood Alleviation Project planned for South Belfast. This will include a number of trial excavations on the Upper Lisburn Road, as well as within residential streets in the area.

The ground investigation work is being carried out in advance to establish ground conditions and the location of existing services, which will assist with the detailed design of the scheme.

We anticipate that the work on the Upper Lisburn Road will take approximately 4 days/nights to complete. Due to the nature and location of these works, and to minimise disruption to traffic flows as far as possible, works will be undertaken over two weekends.

First weekend – work will commence on Saturday 16th February at 6.30am and continue through to Sunday 17th February at 7pm. During this time, there will be no access to Marguerite Park and Donegall Park from the Lisburn Road end, access will be available via Richmond Park/Diamond Gardens.

It may be necessary for some of these works to be undertaken during evening/night time hours. Our contractor will endeavour to keep noise levels to a minimum during these times.

One lane in either direction will remain open on the Lisburn Road during this period.

Second weekend – we anticipate that work will commence on Saturday 9th and continue through to Sunday 10th March. Further details regarding timings and traffic arrangements for these works will be issued in advance of these dates.

Depending on the outcome of the above works, it may be necessary to undertake further weekend works on the Upper Lisburn Road at a later date. NI Water will issue a further update should this be the case.

NI Water and our contractor BSG Civil Engineering fully appreciate that work of this nature can be disruptive, particularly where traffic restrictions are in place, and we will endeavour to minimise this as far as possible.

We would like to thank residents, business owners and road users for their ongoing patience and co-operation as we complete these essential investigation works.
