Sewer Improvement Work gets Underway - Beersbridge Road, Belfast

09 September 2019 13:31

Work has commenced on the first of two sewer projects that NI Water will undertake in the Abetta Parade/Beersbridge Road Areas. Both projects are being undertaken to provide storm/foul sewers to serve new social housing developments.

Work commenced on 3rd September on the Abetta Parade / Beersbridge Road Storm Sewer scheme and we anticipate this section of work will take approximately 5 weeks to complete. This project will involve sewer laying on Abetta Parade and the Beersbridge Road, along with associated manholes.

There will be an initial 3 weeks work on Abetta Parade during which time a one-way road closure will be in place. Access to Abetta Pararde from Beersbridge Road will be maintained during this time. However, there will be no access to Abetta Parade from the Beersbridge Road; a diversion route will be clearly signposted via Woodcot Avenue/Hynford Street. A further 2 weeks works will then take place on Beersbridge Road, at which time a lane closure will be in place. Two-way traffic will be maintained with the use of temporary traffic signals.

Sewer Work will commence on the Beersbridge Road on Monday 16th September and will take approximately 9 weeks to complete. This project will involve laying sewers and associated manholes on the Beersbridge Road, between Elmgrove Primary School and Grove Street East. Underground trenchless installation techniques will be used where possible to minimise disruption.

To accommodate the works there will be a road closure in place over a small section of Grove Street East for approximately 5 weeks, commencing on Monday 23rd September. During this time no access will be possible to and from Beersbridge Road, a diversion route will be clearly signposted. Two-way traffic will be maintained on Beersbridge Road; however, the cycle lanes on both sides of the carriageway will be suspended for the duration of the works. Access will be maintained for residents at all times but parking may be restriced on occasion.

NI Water and our contractors A G Wilson Civil Engineering & Conwell Contracts appreciate that this work is disruptive and would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation whilst we complete these essential improvement works.

ENDS.
