Flood Alleviation Scheme Commences - Toome Road, Ballymena
18 September 2019 15:08
Northern Ireland Water is pleased to announce commencement of this major Flood Alleviation project for the Toome Road area of Ballymena. BSG Civil Engineering have been appointed as the main contractor for the construction works, which we anticipate will get underway in early October 2019, and take approximately 18 months to complete.
This project is being undertaken to resolve historical internal and external ‘out of sewer’ flooding issues, and when complete will increase the capacity of the existing sewerage system in the area and substantially reduce the risk of future flooding.
The work will involve the upgrade of existing sewers, as well as the installation of new sewers on Wakehurst Park, Wakehurst Road, Queen Street and Toome Road. A large storage tank will also be constructed on land adjacent to the council playing fields at Wakehurst Road. NI Water are liaising closely with the Department for Infrastructure and other key stakeholders regarding the programming and traffic management arrangements for these works.
Prior to commencement of the main scheme, NI Water would like to invite you along to a ‘drop-in’ information event, where residents, business owners, Elected Representatives and the public are welcome to come along to find out more about the project. Members of the NI Water project team will be available at any stage between 5.00pm and 7.00pm to discuss the scheme in further detail and address any queries or concerns you may have.
