Closure of Brompton Road for New NI Water pumping station

27 July 2020 14:50

 | NI Water News
Work is underway to construct two new wastewater pumping stations at Brompton Road and Stricklands Glen in Bangor as part of a £4m investment to upgrade the local sewerage infrastructure and help improve water quality along the North Down coast.

The main construction phase at the Brompton Road site will soon begin and will involve an increased number of construction vehicles regularly entering and exiting the site.

In order to undertake this work safely the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) Roads has given approval for a road closure on Brompton Road commencing on Monday 10th August 2020.

Catherine Watkins, NI Water Project Manager for the scheme explains:

“The upgrade of Brompton Road Wastewater Pumping Station (WwPS) forms an integral part of a multi-million investment by NI Water to improve bathing water quality along the North Down coast. As we move into the main phase of work at Brompton WwPS, the number of construction vehicles bringing materials to the site will substantially increase. To ensure that these deliveries can be made in the safest possible manner, it will be necessary to close Brompton Road from Monday 10th August. Access will be maintained for residents during this time.

“We anticipate that the closure will remain in place throughout the main construction works at the Brompton Road site and during pipelaying work on Brompton Road itself, which is programmed to get underway in late 2020. We apologise for any inconvenience that this closure may cause to other members of the public and, along with our colleagues in DfI Roads, we will assess the need for this closure on a regular basis.”

NI Water and BSG would like to thank the local community for their patience and cooperation as we undertake the essential improvements at Brompton Road and Stricklands Glen. These important upgrades will protect and enhance the environment and reduce the risk of out-of-sewer flooding and will augment the programme of network improvements already undertaken by NI Water in the wider Bangor area.

We continue to practise social distancing – our priority is to keep customers and colleagues safe. So please keep your distance and our workers will carry on with their essential work for you.

A few key points to remember:

If we need to visit your home during this time, to keep you and us safe, please make our staff aware if you are self-isolating.  We will also ask you to respect social distancing for our colleagues if they are on your property.
Remember wipes will clog the sewers and result in blockages and flooding – never flush a wipe. For further information log on to  www.niwater.com/bag-it-and-bin-it/
Beware of Bogus Callers – if you are concerned about the identity of someone at your door, you can call the PSNI non-emergency number ‘101’ where you will have the option of a ‘Quickcheck’ to confirm the caller is from the utility they say they are.
Do not let children go near work sites or equipment, this can be extremely dangerous.
