NI Water is pleased to announce that essential sewer improvement works are substantially complete in the Newtownards and Comber areas. This £400,000 investment work that took place over the last few months right under our feet, is part of an overall £18m investment programme by NI Water over a six-year period to improve sewers throughout Northern Ireland. This scheme will enhance the local sewerage infrastructure and reduce the risk of out of sewer flooding.

This essential work involved the repair of existing sewers, which were mainly undertaken using underground trenchless techniques, which significantly reduced the duration and disruption of the works to the public.

Mark Sefton NI Water Senior Project Manager said:
“We are delighted to have successfully completed this sewer improvement work in the Newtownards and Comber areas.

“We completed the majority of the work right under our feet with minimal disruption to the public, using innovative underground environmentally-friendly technology, which reduces the need to dig large excavations. Thanks to the technology, few people would guess the extent of the work, and it also allowed us to complete the project as quickly as possible.

“On behalf of NI Water and our contractor Geda Construction, I would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation throughout these essential improvement works.”

Now that we have improved many of the sewers throughout Newtownards and Comber, we would appeal to the public to help us look after them, by only flushing the “3 Ps” – Pee Poo and paper - down the toilet. Everything else should be put in the bin to ensure these new sewers are kept in top condition and running freely! For further advice log on to: https://www.niwater.com/bag-it-and-bin-it/
