Brompton to Stricklands - Temporary closure of Coastal Path- Give us your views
05 January 2021 17:42
As part of our multi-million pound investment to upgrade the sewerage network in this part of Bangor, NI Water needs to lay a pumping main between the new wastewater pumping stations (WwPS) currently under construction at Brompton Road and Stricklands Glen.Ards and North Down Borough Council was planning to undertake path-widening works in this area during 2021 and therefore, in an effort to minimise the overall level of disruption to the public, NI Water’s contractor will undertake both pipelaying and path widening works at the same time along the North Down Coastal Path between Brompton and Stricklands.
Two separate sections of path will be affected by the work, and for health and safety reasons, these sections will need to be closed to the public while the work is ongoing. Diversion routes will be signposted during the closures.
The first section between Stricklands Glen WwPS and the path to Downshire Road will be closed Monday – Friday for two weeks.
The second section will affect the path from the Downshire Road path to Brompton WwPS. Two options are currently being considered for this closure, which are detailed below. We would like to hear the views of path users as to which option would be preferred.
Please log on to: www.niwater.com/Brompton to choose one of the following options before 12th January 2021:
Full closure of path for 5 weeks with no weekend opening of path (this would allow the works to be completed in the shortest possible timeframe)
Mon-Fri closure of path for 8 weeks with path reopened to the public between 6pm Friday and 7am Monday
Thank you for taking the time to register your views.
NI Water hopes to commence these works in February 2021, subject to final agreement with Ards and North Down Borough Council. Please be assured that we will work to complete the pipelaying and path widening work as quickly as possible.
