Get Water Fit and help support local schools

25 January 2021 14:30

Sixteen local schools, including Ballyoran PS, and St Joseph and St James PS, Pontzpass, have signed up to take part in the first NI Water Get Water Fit ‘School’s Water Saving Challenge’ and are seeking your help to become water saving champions!

The Challenge is part of NI Water’s new Get Water Fit online audit. The schools want you to log on to undertake your own water audit and complete simple water saving challenges to ‘earn’ virtual litres which can be donated to your chosen school. The more litres donated the bigger the prizes for the school, with waterbutts, water bottles and other goodies up for grabs.

The audit is designed to help householders understand where water is used within their homes and helps discover easy ways to reduce water and energy use, look after the environment and save money along the way.

NI Water’s Outreach and Learning Officer, Anna Killen explains “The new Getwaterfit platform is a great tool to help you understand your water use and help local schools win some great prizes.

“The online audit is really simple and easy to use and gives you a detailed outline of your water and associated energy use. It also allows you to order free water saving items such as a four minute shower timer, save a flush bags and swell gels to help save water in the garden.

“On completing the audit you can also take part in easy challenges aimed at helping you reduce your use and ‘earn’ litres. This is where you can help the schools, by allocating your litres saved to your chosen local school via the ‘Support a Team’ section on the website. This will help the school win some fantastic water saving prizes and the opportunity for them to become the first water saving champions of 2021.”
