Water Supply Disruption Fintona

17 January 2015 23:44

NI Water anticipates that as many as 500 properties in Fintona village, served by Lisnagardy Service Reservoir, will suffer a disruption to their water supply from the early hours of Sunday morning. This is due to the ongoing industrial action.

Customers are advised to visit niwater.com and use our postcode search to check if they are affected.

We appeal to customers to refrain from using water unnecessarily to conserve remaining water supplies (e.g. not washing cars; hosing yards, etc)

Should any of our customers be out of supply for more than 24 hours, we will endeavour to provide alternative water supplies, details of which will become available on our website.

NI Water has mobilised all resources at its disposal to deal with this latest incident, however, due to the limited resources available to us, as a result of industrial action, our response has been restricted.

NI Water contacted Trade Unions today, Saturday, to seek their assistance to reinstate the protocol to allow their members to deal with emergency situations. Unions stated they were not in a position to reinstate any protocol.

NI Water fully recognises this is a frustrating experience for our customers, and can assure them we are doing everything possible to restore water supplies as quickly as possible.

NI Water would like to once again thank our customers for their continued patience whilst this problem is being resolved.

Unfortunately though, with 26,000kms of watermains, 15,000kms of sewers and literally thousands of pumping stations and treatment works to monitor, it was virtually inevitable there will be interruptions to services to our customers.

NI Water remains on high alert with a Major Incident regime in place and we are committed to continued engagement with Trade Unions in an effort to resolve this dispute. The company would stress once more the key demand that pension reform be delayed is not within its gift to provide. It believes dialogue rather than causing disruption represents the best way forward.
