Watermains Improvement Work Continues in Dunmurry

19 August 2015 16:47

NI Water has been undertaking pipelaying works in the Dunmurry area as part of its ongoing £14m Castor Bay to Belfast Trunk Main Scheme, an extensive project aimed at safeguarding the security of supply for customers in the wider Belfast and Lisburn areas.

Where possible, pipelaying in the Dunmurry area has currently been taking place during the day, outside the busiest commuter times to minimise traffic disruption. However, it has been necessary to carry out some works at night where major junctions/access points are affected or when major roads have to be crossed.

Pipelaying work is scheduled to take place in the Blacks Road/Kingsway area over the next 2-3 weeks. We estimate that the work will take place as follows:

  • 17th August to Friday 21st of August – pipelaying work will continue along lane 1 of Blacks Road going towards Kingsway from 10.00am – 3.00pm
  • Monday 24th of August to Friday 28th of August – crossing of Blacks Road: 8.00pm – 6.00am
  • Monday 31st of August to Friday 4th of September – crossing of Kingsway: 8.00pm – 6.00am
Speaking about the scheme, Martin Gillen, NI Water Project Manager said:

“This section of the overall project involves the laying of 1.8km of new pipeline in the area to substantially increase the capacity of the local water supply infrastructure.

“In order to minimise any inconvenience, no road closures will be implemented to facilitate this work and all work will be carried out under lane closures. The above dates are approximate durations - NI Water’s contractor, Lagan Construction Group, will complete the work in shorter timescales if possible and will strive to minimise  disruption during the works period.

“Signage will be erected in advance by our contractor, Lagan Construction Group, to advise motorists of any lane restrictions and anyone with any concerns can contact the 24-hour Waterline number on 03457 440088.”

NI Water and Lagan Construction Group would like to thank local residents and road users in advance for their ongoing patience and co-operation and will do everything we can to reduce disruption in the area while we complete this essential improvement work. Signage will be in place and access will be maintained at all times for residents within the construction area.
