Cliftonville Rd Watermains Upgrade

09 July 2012 11:09

NI Water is currently engaged in an ongoing process of improving and upgrading the water supply infrastructure in the Greater Belfast area. As part of this process, we wish to announce that work is now underway on the installation of a new watermain on the Cliftonville Road. The work commenced on Saturday 7th July 2012 and it is expected that the first phase of work will continue until early September 2012.

The first phase of planned works will be completed in sections:
Section 1: Antrim Road junction – Rosapenna Drive
Section 2: Oldpark Avenue – Cliftonville Circus

A third section that was originally planned for the summer months between Rosapenna Drive and Oldpark Avenue will now take place at a later date. NI Water will update the local community on this section of work in due course.

In order to ensure the safety of the travelling public and our contractors, there will be a one-way traffic system in place for the duration of the works as agreed with DRD Roads Service.

Traffic wishing to travel towards the Antrim Road will continue as normal. However traffic wishing to travel towards Oldpark Road, will be diverted via Cavehill Road and Westland Road.

The majority of the work has been planned to take place over the summer months to reduce disruption on the roads as there will be less general and school traffic in the area. We have also invested in extra resources on the ground during this scheme to ensure that the first phase of the scheme (Sections 1 & 2) are completed over the summer months.

Once complete, this project will be good news for the local area as the upgraded watermains will improve the reliability and flexibility of water supply, drinking water quality and will also help reduce leakage.

NI Water and its contractor Farrans Construction have completed letter drops in affected areas to advise residents of this work. We would like to thank the residents and the traveling public in advance for their co-operation and patience during this essential improvement work. There may be increased traffic in the area which may result in some disruption while this work takes place, but we would like to assure customers that every effort will be made to keep it to a minimum. All diversions will be clearly signposted.

NI Water’s customer relations team can also be contacted via Waterline on 08457 440088. Customers with any questions on the scheme should quote “Farrans Utilities Watermains Rehabilitation Programme – Cliftonville Road.”
