Watermains Improvement Work Gets Underway – Princess Avenue/Lissan Drive, Cookstown

14 November 2017 15:32

NI Water is currently engaged in an ongoing process of improving and upgrading the water supply infrastructure throughout Northern Ireland and are planning to commence work shortly in the Princess Avenue and Lissan Drive areas of Cookstown. This work is good news for customers in the local area, as the upgraded watermains will improve the quality, reliability and security of the local water supply, while reducing leakage and improving pressure in the area.

Work is expected to commence on the 27th November and will continue for approximately six weeks. The area will be fully reinstated from the 22nd December to reduce disruption over the Christmas period. The remaining work will be completed in the new year, commencing on the 8th January 2018. The work will be completed in sections to keep disruption to a minimum and diversion signage will be in place.

Unfortunately, on street parking will be restricted throughout this programme of work. However, pedestrian access will be available at all times. Every effort will be made to restore access as soon as possible each evening and we would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation while we complete this essential programme of work.

Derek Crabbe, NI Water’s Project Manager for the scheme, said:

The scale of the ongoing watermains project has required extensive work on local roads. However, where possible, we will use state of the art low-dig technology throughout this programme of work, which will enable us to lay many of the mains without the need to open large trenches.

“NI Water will continue to cooperate with the Department for Infrastructure and local representatives and will do everything possible to keep any disruption to a minimum.”

NI Water and our contractor Farrans Construction have completed letter drops in affected areas to advise residents of this work. Traffic management and signage will also be in place as the work progresses.

Our customer relations team can also be contacted via Waterline on 03457 440088. Customers with any questions on the scheme should quote “Farrans Utilities Water Mains Rehabilitation Programme”.
