Donaghadee Sewer Rehabilitation Work Public Information Session: 21 April

12 April 2016 14:47

NI Water will be commencing work on the second phase of a Sewer Rehabilitation programme in the Donaghadee area in April 2016 and we would like to take this opportunity to invite the local community and business owners to a ‘drop in’ information session on Thursday 21st April 2016 from 4.00pm – 7.00pm.

The event will be held in Donaghadee Community Centre, 12A Railway Street, Donaghadee BT21 0HG. (Pedestrian access via Railway Street, vehicular access to car park via end of The Parade).

The work in Donaghadee is part of NI Water’s ongoing Sewerage Rehabilitation Programme, to improve an ageing sewerage network across Northern Ireland over a period of 6 years. It will involve essential sewer improvement work which was identified under the investigation work carried out in Stage 1 of the project. The work may include localised repairs, the installation of “liners” in existing sewers, replacing sewers which are beyond their natural lifespan as well as other associated work. Where possible, the work will be carried out using specialist “no-dig” or “low-dig” methods which are designed to minimise disruption and duration of the work. However it will be necessary at some locations to re-lay pipes by traditional “open-dig” methods.

The Stage 2 works will be carried out at the following locations in the Donaghadee area: Northfield Road, Killaughey Road, Millisle Road, High Street and New Street.

Traffic management plans will be agreed with Transport NI, and at certain locations there may be lane / road closures in place.

Members of the NI Water project team will be available at the ‘drop in’ session to discuss the scheme in further detail and get as much feedback as possible to feed into the proposals. Everyone is welcome to attend.

NI Water would like to thank the public for their patience and co-operation while this essential work is completed. Once complete, the work will improve the sewerage infrastructure, reducing the likelihood of sewer collapses and blockages.
