STEM Ambassadors at Northern Ireland Water

What is a STEM Ambassador?

STEM Ambassadors are Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Ambassadors who work with schools on a voluntary basis, providing support and encouragement as well as being role models for young people and children in science, technology, engineering and maths. The aim of the program is to encourage more young people to understand the opportunities that a STEM-based career can offer them.

STEM Ambassadors at NI Water

NI Water are one of the many organisations currently working with W5 under the STEMNET initiative (Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Network), and we have a wide range of STEM ambassadors in different roles throughout the company who can offer a wide range of expertise in the areas - from engineers to scientists working in the NI Water Scientific laboratories. These employees volunteer their time to inspire and encourage children and young people in these subjects and related careers. Some of the activities our staff have assisted with include: supporting practical work in the classroom; addressing school groups about potential careers within NI Water and other STEM related topics; or assisting at careers events.

Participation in the STEM Ambassadors programme is an important part of NI Water’s on-going community involvement initiatives. The ambassadors are playing an active role in enthusing the scientists and engineers of the future and informing them about the unique career opportunities that are available to them.
