School's Out , But Not For The Waterbus !

16 August 2010 9:49
Bonnie Sam Roryshaw School may be out for the kids, but not for NI Water’s waterbus. Instead, the bus didn’t get any summer holidays and visited 3 national trust properties, over 7 days, promoting Water Efficiency and the Bag It & Bin It campaign.

NI Water’s education team took the waterbus to Rowallane, Castleward and Mount Stewart in a bid to promote water efficiency amongst customers during the summer months and to educate them on what not to flush down the loo. NI Water’s Education Manager, Jane Jackson explains:

“The waterbus is always busy visiting school children during the school term, so, we decided to take it out during the summer to deliver information to the adults too. The public don’t often realise it, but they can avoid wasting water by doing simple things like using watering cans around the garden instead of hosepipes and sprinklers, using buckets to wash the car instead of a hosepipe and turning off the tap when brushing their teeth.

“We were also promoting our Bag It & Bin It message and the dangers of flushing inappropriate items such as cotton buds and baby wipes down the loo. Anything other that toilet roll should be put in the bin, otherwise, sewers in their area can become blocked, resulting in an overflow of sewage.”
