Update - Sewer Improvement Work at Duke Street Roundabout

15 November 2010 8:51
NI Water is scheduled to commence essential Sewer Improvement Work in the Duke Street Roundabout Area. Work will commence on site during the week commencing 22nd November 2010 and will last approximately 10 weeks. However, the vast majority of this work will take place on the roundabout island itself, with no daytime disruption to the public. This work will not interfere with the Road Service Christmas embargo period and there will be no lane closures within this embargo period to facilitate Christmas traffic in the area.

From the 22nd November NI Water will be working at night for 4 nights to construct an access ramp onto the raised Duke Street roundabout island. This will necessitate the use of night time traffic control with a single lane closure for this brief period. Following this, all daytime work will be confined within the raised roundabout island, with no restriction to traffic except for occasional site access.

Towards the end of the contract we will be working at night to lay a pipe across from the roundabout towards the railway line. This work will take approximately two nights, with a further two nights work at the end of the 10 week period to facilitate final reinstatement of the roundabout. Night time traffic control with a single lane closure will also be in place for these activities.

This work is part of an overall £27million investment in the Drainage Area Plan for the city. It will facilitate planned and future development within the city as well as reducing localised ‘out of sewer’ flooding in the sewerage network.

NI Water and its contractor Shearwater Consortium would like to thank the public for their patience and will do everything possible to complete this essential work as quickly as possible.
