Sewer Improvement Work - Abercorn Road Area

02 September 2011 14:03
As a result of recent attacks during night-time working, NI Water will resume essential sewer improvement work on the Abercorn Road from Monday 5th September until Friday 9th September from 8am – 6pm daily.
This work will require a road closure on the Abercorn Road, and a diversion route will be clearly signposted.

Project Manager for the scheme, Ross Funston explains:

“Where possible, NI Water carries out work on many major schemes throughout the night to avoid potential traffic disruption. Over 60% of the work carried out in the City over the last year has been completed at night. However, night crews have recently been subjected to attacks which have resulted in very expensive equipment being damaged and work left uncompleted. In light of these attacks, the current work on Abercorn Road will be completed during the day. The subsequent road closure is likely to cause some disruption to local residents, however the safety of our workers is paramount.

I can assure the residents and local businesses in the area that we will endeavour to complete the work as quickly as possible. This scheme is part a wider ongoing essential sewer improvement programme in the city which will improve the sewerage infrastructure, reduce the risk of out of sewer flooding and will meet the city’s existing and future development needs.

NI Water and its contractor, Shearwater Consortium would like to thank the public in advance for their patience, and assure them that we will do everything we can to complete the work as quickly as possible.

Customer queries regarding this work should be directed to Waterline on 08457 440088.
