Watermains Upgrade Continues in Forkhill

29 June 2012 12:36
As part of its ongoing Watermains Rehabilitation Programme in the greater Newry area, NI Water, together with its contractors, Farrans Construction are continuing with a programme of work to improve and upgrade the watermains network in the Forkhill area. The final section of work will require a road closure on the B113 Forkhill Road, which will commence on the 23rd July 2012 and will last approximately 3 weeks.

The B113 Forkhill Road, Newry will be closed to through traffic, from its junction with the A1 Dublin Road roundabout to its junction with U5198 Seavers Road, Monday-Friday, 8.00pm- 6.00am.

This work has been planned in close consultation with DRD Roads Service to take place at night during the summer months to reduce disruption to local businesses and the travelling public.

Alternative routes for through traffic will be: A1 Dublin Road, A25 Camlough /Newry Road, B30 Newtown Road / Sturgan Brae, B134 Longfield Road, B113 Newry Road, Drumintee Hamlet, Meigh Village and the B113 Forkhill Road.
Access to the Golf Inn and Cloghogue Business Park will be available from the A1 Dublin Road roundabout.

NI Water and its contractor Farrans Construction will consult with local residents and businesses on an ongoing basis regarding this work. We would like to thank the local residents, businesses and traveling public in advance for their co-operation and patience during this essential improvement work and we would like to assure customers that every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum. Access for residents and businesses will be maintained, but it will not be possible to facilitate vehicles through the works site and therefore the diversion route may need to be followed.

The project is part of NI Water’s ongoing £100 million Watermains Rehabilitation Programme throughout Northern Ireland which involves upgrading and improving in excess of 1000 kilometres of watermain infrastructure throughout Northern Ireland over the next five years. Once complete, this project will be good news for the local area as the upgraded watermains will improve the reliability and flexibility of water supply, drinking water quality and will also help reduce leakage.
