An extensive programme of work to improve the wastewater network in Annsborough and Castlewellan is progressing well, with work on Newcastle Road nearing the halfway stage. 

Our contractor, BSG expects to be in the vicinity of Burrenwood/Circular Road junction in around 1-2 weeks’ time. 

As the pipelaying work gets closer to the town, additional traffic management will be required and the pace of work is expected to slow as the extent of underground services increases.

Access to businesses and residential areas will be maintained as the work continues towards the Main Street/Newcastle Road roundabout and traffic lights will be manned at peak times. The traffic management will continue to be removed at weekends when possible.

In the meantime, resurfacing of Claremont Avenue – following pipelaying in the summer – has been scheduled for the school Halloween break in a bid to minimise disruption. A road closure will be required on Claremont Avenue between 27th and 31st October to carry out this work. Signage will be in place in advance of the closure and BSG will liaise with businesses in the area regarding access for deliveries etc.

NI Water and our project team from BSG and McAdam take this opportunity to thank the public for their patience and cooperation as we strive to improve the wastewater network serving Annsborough and Castlewellan. 

This major investment will reduce the pressure on the existing network and help reduce the risk of out-of-sewer flooding. A series of localised sewer repairs, also included in the scheme, will address leakage and help protect against blockages.

Every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum and complete each section of works in the shortest possible timeframe.
