NI Water will begin work in early July to upgrade Clanbrassil Wastewater Pumping Station (WwPS) located adjacent to the North Down Coastal Path at Farmhill Bay Beach.

The six-week programme of improvements – due to get underway on Monday 7th July – will see an extension to the underground tank to reduce the risk of out-of-sewer flooding and create additional capacity in the wastewater network to help support local development.

Speaking about the work and the temporary path diversion, NI Water Senior Project Manager, David McClean said: “This NI Water investment forms part of a wider programme of measures undertaken recently in the Seahill catchment to upgrade the wastewater network, increase capacity and provide environmental protection.

“To carry out the work at Clanbrassil WwPS as safely as possible, and as agreed with council, an area of land around the pumping station site will be fenced off and a short section of the coastal path, adjacent to the works area, will be closed. A temporary pedestrian and cycle path will be put in place around the works area which will be clearly signposted.

“During the work, construction vehicles will be travelling in the Farmhill Road area, and along the access track from Farmhill Road to Farmhill Bay Beach. For safety reasons, any vehicles accessing the site will be controlled by a steward (banksman) along the access track, however we would ask the public to remain vigilant and be mindful of construction traffic being in the area.

“NI Water and our project team from TetraTech and AG Wilson thank residents and wider public for their patience and cooperation while we undertake this essential work. We assure you that we will strive to keep disruption to a minimum and complete the work in the shortest possible timeframe.”
