This Christmas, be extra wary of bogus callers pretending to be from NI Water, who may try to slink their way into your home like sneaky grinches.

As the festive season sparkles and the warmth of home beckons, we all want to protect our Whoville – the place where our loved ones and happiest memories reside. But just as in the beloved tale of The Grinch, there may be mischievous visitors afoot with hearts two sizes too small, hoping to steal your peace and joy. 

NI Water’s advice is to protect the heart and soul of your holiday by staying alert. Always double-check the identity of callers and don’t hesitate to use the Quick Check service if you have any doubt. 

NI Water’s Operations Services Senior Manager Robbie Burns said: “Every genuine NI Water team member is more Cindy-Lou than Grinch – always ready with an ID card and never offended if you ask to see it. If someone knocks at your door claiming to be from NI Water, the Water Service, or the Water Board, always insist on seeing their ID. Remember, the real heroes won’t mind, but a Grinch will!

“For a dash of extra Christmas magic and reassurance, ring the ‘Quick Check’ service on 101 (the police non-emergency number) to verify a caller’s identity. This is your surefire way to spot a real Who from a would-be Grinch, whether they claim to check your water, gas or electricity supplies. Let’s ensure no Grinch can sneak off with your Christmas spirit – always keep your home safe, and your festivities merry and bright!”
