Essential Sewer Improvements Continue – Queens Quay

10 July 2025 16:21

NI Water will commence essential sewer improvement work on Queens Quay, between Harbour Square Roundabout and Strand Road Roundabout, on the 20th July as part of a wider programme of investment to upgrade the wastewater network serving the city.

This programme of improvements has already seen over 1,100 metres of the Culmore Trunk Sewer relined between Foyle Road and Queens Quay to strengthen the sewerage network and help protect against sewer collapses, blockages and reduce the risk of out-of-sewer flooding.

Work will commence on Queen’s Quay on the evening of Sunday 20th July 2025 and will take approximately 6 weeks to complete.

The relining work will be carried out in sections at night between Harbour Square

Roundabout and Strand Road Roundabout. In addition to this, excavation and preparation work will take place during normal working hours.

To carry out the work in the safest possible manner, the following traffic management

(TM) arrangements will be put into place between Harbour Square Roundabout and

Strand Road Roundabout. Signage will be displayed in the area.

  • Sunday 20th July 11pm - Monday 21st July 6am: full closure of Queens Quay in both directions. Traffic diverted via Strand Road.
  • Monday 21st July 6am - Sunday 31st August 5pm: One-way continuous closure of Queens Quay (northbound). Northbound traffic diverted via Strand Road.
  • Lower Clarendon Street and Boating Club Lane will also be closed to through traffic from Queen’s Quay during this period. Access to Quayside Medical Practice car park will be via Strand Road.

NI Water and our contractor GRAHAM appreciate work of this nature may be disruptive and thank the public for their patience and cooperation as we complete these essential improvements.

The project team appreciates the co-operation of the wider public in ensuring that children do not play in or around any site or machinery. Working areas will have warning signs in place to protect the public from any hazards. The public are advised to stay out of these working areas for their own safety.
