The sun is shining and the finishing line for school summer holidays is almost within touching distance. That also means it’s officially exam season. Whether you are studying for exams or finishing a project, NI Water is providing students with another study aid – water! There are many health benefits of drinking high quality tap water and can help as part of study routines to aid academic success.

NI Water’s 'Water for Health' initiative encourages everyone to keep hydrated by drinking the recommended daily amount of water as part of a healthy lifestyle, including helping increase concentration and improve memory.

NI Water education officer Anna Killen said: “With exam season kicking in, many young people may find their concentration and motivation falling so it’s important to stay hydrated.  It’s well documented that water helps to increase concentration and improve memory. It also reduces the risk of cramps and tiredness, helps with healthy skin, bones, hair and nails as well as providing extra energy.

“NI Water is keen to encourage young people to remember to drink plenty of water at this time of year, especially during exam time when they can often be tired from studying.  Even slight dehydration can cause feelings of tiredness and reduced alertness, which will affect a child's interest in being active, therefore impacting on their overall wellbeing. We should all be aiming for 6-8 glasses of water a day. Water is essential to everyone’s health - so let’s make sure we prioritise drinking plenty of it as part of our self-care to help you function and avoid burn out.”

Water is a basic nutrient of the body and is essential for survival.  It is essential to keep your body well hydrated, flush toxins from your system whilst retaining vital vitamins and minerals.  Water forms a major part of our blood (approximately 82%), lubricates joints, eyes, aids digestion and helps you look better by keeping skin smooth.
