NI Water to install stormwater infrastructure to serve new development on Stockbridge Road

02 November 2026 17:00

NI Water wishes to advise that pipelaying will commence on Warren Road in Donaghadee on Monday 9th November as dedicated stormwater infrastructure is installed to serve a new development on the nearby Stockbridge Road.

The section of work on Warren Road will require a lane closure around the working area adjacent to Stockbridge Road. This work was originally scheduled to get underway at the end of October but has been slightly delayed. The lane closure will now be in place from Monday 9th November for a period of around 2-3 weeks.

Once the work on Warren Road is complete, the pipeline will extend from Warren Road along a short section of Stockbridge Road as far as the new development. Stockbridge Road will need to be closed to through traffic at its junction with Warren Road to facilitate this phase of work.

Speaking about the work, the required traffic management and access arrangements, Francis Anton Shanmugam, NI Water Project Manager, said: “This new pipeline and associated manholes are being installed to deal with surface water from the new development on Stockbridge Road, rather than it entering the combined sewerage network.

“To facilitate the work in the safest possible manner, traffic management will be implemented in two stages:

“From Monday 9th November, a lane closure will be in place around the working area on a section of Warren Road, adjacent to its junction with Stockbridge Road, for 2-3 weeks.

“Following completion of the Warren Road section, Stockbridge Road will be closed to through traffic between Warren Road and the new development, located beside Nos. 9/11 Stockbridge Road, for approximately 3-4 weeks. Access to all business and residential properties on Stockbridge Road between High Bangor Road and the new development will be maintained from High Bangor Road.

“A letter drop has been carried out in the area and signage is in place for motorists. NI Water and our project team from AtkinsRéalis and AG Wilson Civil Engineering thank residents and the wider public for their patience and cooperation while this essential work is carried out.”

The works are expected to take around six weeks to complete overall.
