NI Water wishes to advise motorists that a section of the Ballyscullion Road in Bellaghy will be closed to through traffic from Monday 21st September for up to three weeks to allow final connections to be made in relation to ongoing wastewater network improvements in the area.

The closure will be in place between Deerpark Road and Drumanee Road, with the working area extending from No. 6 Ballyscullion Road to No. 26 Ballyscullion Road. A diversion route will be signposted via Castle Street/Main Street, William Street, Ballynease Road and New Ferry Road while works are ongoing.

Speaking about the works, Martin Armstrong, NI Water Senior Project Manager, said:

"The work on Ballyscullion Road - which involves the installation of larger diameter sewers to increase capacity and reduce the risk of out of sewer flooding in the area - forms part of a wider £3.6m investment to upgrade the wastewater network in Bellaghy.

"A significant portion of pipelaying work has already been undertaken by our appointed contractor, Murphy Dawson WAM and this closure will allow the final connections on Ballyscullion Road to be undertaken in the safest possible way.

“Once complete towards the end of 2026, this scheme will strengthen the long-term resilience of the wastewater network in Bellaghy and provide enhanced environmental protection in the face of climate change and heavier rainfall.

"NI Water and our project team from Murphy Dawson WAM and Tetra Tech would like to thank local landowners, residents and businesses for their patience and cooperation as we deliver these essential works. Every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum and complete the works in the shortest possible timeframe.

“To further enhance the wastewater infrastructure in Bellaghy, a programme of base maintenance work is also taking place at Bellaghy Wastewater Treatment Works. This investment will modernise ageing parts of the facility and ensure that environmental compliance can be maintained for many years to come. An additional programme of work – which is currently subject to funding - will be required at the treatment works to increase capacity and support development in Bellaghy.”
