A section of Upper Galliagh Road in Derry/Londonderry – between Temple Court and Woodbrook West – will be closed to through traffic from Monday 30th March for up to five days as NI Water’s contractor, BSG carries out essential pipelaying work in the area.

The work is part of the ongoing Lenamore and Skeoge Wastewater Projects which will deliver modern wastewater pumping stations and a network of sewers to serve new housing developments in the area.

The works area will be located just past the Temple Court junction (as shown on the attached map) with access available from each side of the working/closure area.

The approved diversion route for motorists will be signed via: Upper Galliagh Road, Buncrana Road, Skeoge Link Road, Clon Dara and Lower Galliagh Road.

Giving an update on the various schemes, NI Water’s Head of Wastewater Infrastructure Capital Delivery John Griffin said:

“Work on the new Lenamore Wastewater Pumping Station, adjacent to Heather Road, is progressing well and pipelaying is continuing in the area to connect this new asset with the new sewer already laid on Madams Bank Road.

“Planning for the new Skeoge Wastewater Pumping Station is still outstanding, however good progress is being made on laying the pipelines that will eventually connect Skeoge with Lenamore. Once the work is completed at Upper Galliagh, pipelaying will continue adjacent to Templemore Sports Complex and between the sports complex and Lenamore Wastewater Pumping Station.”

Overall, the two new pumping stations and network of pipelines represent an investment in the region of £20m by NI Water to provide the necessary infrastructure to support new homes in the northwest of the city.

Significant investment is also being made by NI Water to reline and improve the existing Culmore Trunk Sewer so that it can support the new Lenamore and Skeoge infrastructure for generations to come.
