NI Water’s £2.5 million improvement works to safeguard Derry City’s water supply for the next 25 years are progressing well at the Craigavon Bridge. This major investment will improve the resilience of the network and improve the security of supply for local households and businesses.

In order to remove scaffolding after the successful completion of phase one of the project, a one-way closure continues on the Craigavon Bridge from the Foyle Road Junction to Duke Street Junction, daily from 09:00 to 17:00 until tomorrow - Friday 13th February. 

An alternative route will be signposted, with traffic being diverted via Foyle Road, Foyle embankment or via the upper deck of Craigavon Bridge and Duke Street.

Please note, further traffic management arrangements are in place as we implement another continuous one-way closure from Victoria Road Junction to Craigavon Bridge Lower Deck from Monday 16th February until July this year. This closure of the slip lane will allow the team to access essential materials and equipment to replace NI Water’s Water Trunk Main, which delivers essential drinking water supplies on the upstream side of the bridge.

This major scheme is an important investment in the future security of the city’s drinking water network. Improvements to the main will reduce the risk of bursts and interruptions, helping to keep water flowing, when demand is high or during adverse weather conditions.
