Tap into some fun at the Balmoral Show by helping to reduce plastic bottles in our environment

NI Water is inviting visitors to join the tap water ‘refillution’ and pick up a free water bottle as its team returns to the Balmoral Show this week.

At the heart of the stand is the NI Water Tap House – where the bar is open for cool, fresh drinking water. Visitors can take a break and catch up on all things water by visiting us at stand EK101 in the Eikon Exhibition Centre.

With all hands at the pump, guests are encouraged to relax, grab a reusable cup and snap a photo in NI Water’s fun water bottle seat. Those who take part will receive a free reusable water bottle.

NI Water’s Refillution campaign aims to cut down on single-use plastics and reduce their impact on the environment and marine life. Since launching in 2019, the initiative has delivered more than 50,000 reusable water bottles to the public who pledge to refill from the tap and reduce plastic waste.

Visitors can also learn more about how their drinking water is treated and carefully tested before reaching taps in homes across Northern Ireland.

NI Water Education Officer, Anna Killen, said: “People in Northern Ireland use around 420 million single-use plastic bottles every year. By switching to a reusable bottle, everyone can play their part in reducing plastic waste that can end up polluting our rivers and seas.

“Refilling with tap water also helps lower our carbon footprint, as bottled water is up to 900 times more carbon intensive than tap water.

“We’re encouraging everyone visiting the Balmoral Show to join our refillution campaign by choosing to refill rather than buy single-use plastic bottles. Together, we can make a real difference.

“So, visit our Tap House, enjoy a drink, refill your bottle and help protect our environment from plastic pollution that can block drains and harm our precious natural waterways.”
