NI Water is pleased to announce the commencement of a major Water Infrastructure Improvement Scheme in the Larne area. The project will involve the installation of approximately 17km of new water mains and associated connections across the borough.

The majority of the work will be carried out in densely populated residential areas within Larne town, alongside a number of upgrades to the rural water network. The overall programme will move to various locations across the Larne Borough and is expected to continue over the next two and a half years. NI Water will publicise the works locations in advance via signage and media communications.

James McCammon NI Water Project Manager said:

“We are delighted to commence this major programme of improvements, which will greatly benefit residents and businesses in the Larne area. This significant £2.5 million investment in the water infrastructure will improve the security of the water supply as well as enhancing drinking water quality for customers throughout the area.”

“We anticipate that the improvements will initially commence in the Edward Avenue area in September, then progress to Wyncairn, Ferris Avenue and the surrounding area.

“NI Water and our project team including main contractor Nuline Coras JV would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation and will do everything possible to keep disruption to a minimum as the work progresses.”

A substantial proportion of the work will be carried out using environmentally friendly trenchless technology. This method allows pipes to be installed underground with significantly reduced excavation requirements, helping to minimise disruption to local communities and road users.

Signage and traffic management will be in place throughout the route with local access maintained at all times.

Notifications will be issued as the works progress to keep local residents and business owners informed of key dates.

The project team appreciates the co-operation of the wider public in ensuring that children do not play in or around any site or machinery. Working areas will have warning signs in place to protect the public from any hazards. The public are advised to stay out of these working areas for their own safety.
