NI Water is not currently considering a hosepipe ban and would like to thank customers across Northern Ireland for continuing to use water wisely during the recent spell of warm, dry weather. NI Water is encouraging everyone to keep up their water-saving efforts as demand remains much higher than normal during the warm weather.
NI Water continues to monitor reservoir levels. While demand remains high, reservoir levels are currently at a reasonable position for this time of year.
NI Water's Head of Water, Paul Bryce, said: "We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has taken simple steps to use water wisely over the past few days. Customers have really stepped up and every water-saving action, no matter how small, has helped us keep water flowing to homes and businesses across Northern Ireland.
"While we are not currently considering a hosepipe ban, we cannot take our water supply for granted. We would encourage everyone to continue taking simple steps to reduce water use while the warm weather continues."
Some simple water-saving tips include:
- Using a watering can instead of a hose.
- Giving the sprinkler a rest.
- Keeping a jug of water in the fridge.
- Only running washing machines and dishwashers when full.
- Turning off the tap when brushing your teeth.
Paul added: "Every drop counts. By continuing to use water wisely, customers can help reduce pressure on the network and help ensure water continues to be available for everyone who needs it.
“While you're helping us keep the taps flowing, we can help you too. NI Water is encouraging anyone who may need a little extra support during a supply interruption to sign up to its free Customer Care Register. Customers can also register for free text alerts so they can receive updates straight to their phone if there's an unplanned interruption in their area. To sign up for either service, visit NI Water's Customer Care Register or Register for Keeping You Informed.”
NI Water is also reminding the public to stay safe around reservoirs. Reservoirs may look calm and inviting, but they are working sites and can be extremely cold, deep and dangerous. Swimming, paddling, inflatables, paddle boarding and other water-based activities are not permitted at NI Water reservoirs.
