With World Health Day coming up soon on 7th April 2026, NI Water’s is delighted to once again invite schools to book a visit to a water treatment works (WTW) and join them in celebrating and recognising the remarkable science that protects our most precious resource – water.
Under this year’s World Health Day theme ‘Together for Health, Stand with Science’, the visits to the NI Water WTWs will show students how NI Water teams employ cutting-edge technology and shared expertise to ensure that water remains safe and healthy for all, recognising the dedication behind every drop.
Staff from across NI Water - scientists, environmentalists and water process supply technicians – will showcase the behind-the-scenes workings and processes that go into cleaning water and keeping it safe in an ever changing environment.
As part of their visit, students will also learn more about the significant, often unseen role our scientists and water quality experts play in ensuring the water NI Water provides meets strict quality standards all year round.
Anna Killen, Education Officer with NI Water, said: “We are thrilled to offer live demonstrations and guided tours led by our team of expert scientists at our water treatment works. Our teams rigorously test and monitor our water every day. These visits will provide schools with a valuable insight into the processes behind water treatment and safety, whilst also allowing them to participate in essential experiments alongside our scientific staff.”
