Sewer Improvement Work Gets Underway in Downpatrick

15 February 2010 9:43

Northern Ireland Water (NI Water) is scheduled to commence essential improvement work on the sewerage infrastructure in Market Street, Downpatrick on Monday 22 February 2010. The work, which represents an investment of almost £1million by NI Water, will commence in St Patrick’s Square and will then move to Market Street. Expected completion date is July 2010 (April 2010 for the section of work within Market Street).

NI Water will continue to liaise with Down District Council to plan works around the annual St Patrick's Day festivities which take place in front of the St Patrick's Centre. Planned excavation work in Market Street will therefore not commence until after the 17th March to accommodate the annual parade and minimise disruption on this important day for Downpatrick.

This essential work will reduce the risk of out of sewer flooding, improve river water quality, and improve the sewerage system to meet future growth and demand in the area.

NI Water would like to assure the public that everything will be done to minimise disruption while this essential work is completed. Any queries, should be directed to our customer relations centre via Waterline on 08457 440088.
