Double Investment for Ballymena

23 May 2011 12:53

Neil Brady NI Water, Alderman W.R McNeilly, Deputy Mayor and Peter Neeson of NI Water mark the completion of the two new upgraded plants
NI Water is pleased to announce that work to upgrade the Cargan and Martinstown Wastewater Treatment Works has now been completed.

The upgrade has increased capacity, allowing for future development and population growth in the local area, and enhanced the service provided to the area by reducing the environmental impact of the new works.

Neil Brady, Project Manager said:

“We are delighted to report that work has finished on these two upgraded Wastewater Treatment Works. This is excellent news for the Ballymena area as the investment will improve wastewater facilities for the local population, river water quality and meet Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) and EU Environmental Compliance Standards.

“The Cargan upgrade, which represents an investment of over £520,000 by NI Water, has enabled the works to take account of future population growth in the area, with the population equivalent projected to rise.

“NI Water also invested a further £570,000 in the Martinstown facility which has also been designed to take account of projected population growth in the area.”

Alderman W.R McNeilly, Deputy Mayor of Ballymena Council, added:

“The Council welcome the completion of this work and the investment from NI Water. This is excellent news for both local people and the local environment.”

Cargan and Martinstown Wastewater Treatment Works were completed in partnership with Graham MWH Treatment JV and RPS.
