Donegall Road Watermains Improvement

07 June 2011 11:16

NI Water is currently engaged in improving and upgrading the water supply infrastructure in the greater Belfast area. This work is good news for the area as the upgraded water mains will dramatically improve the quality, reliability and flexibility of water supply, while also reducing leakage.

As part of this process, NI Water would like to advise the public that work is due to commence on the installation of a new water main on Donegall Road on Monday 13th June and is expected to last until early September 2011.

The new main will be laid between the junction with Broadway Roundabout and the junction with Roden Street. In order to ensure the safety of the traveling public and our contractors, it will be necessary to put in place a one-way traffic system for the duration of the works. The scope of this is detailed below and large electronic signs will also highlight the closures.

From Monday 13th June until Sunday 19th June, Donegall Road will be open to country- bound traffic only, between Lower Rockview St and Broadway Roundabout. This will mean that there will be no access from the Westlink onto Donegall Road. Traffic wishing to travel towards the city centre will be diverted via Glenmachan Street, Tate's Avenue, Lisburn Road and Donegall Road.

After this initial work is completed, the work will be carried out in sections gradually moving along Donegall Road towards Roden Street.

To facilitate this, from Monday 20th June until early September, the one way system will be reversed. Traffic wishing to travel along Donegall Road towards the city centre will continue as normal. However traffic wishing to travel country bound towards the Westlink will be diverted via Lisburn Road, Tate's Avenue and Glenmachan Street.

NI Water and our contractor Farrans Utilities have carried out letter drops in each area to advise residents of this work. We would like to thank the public in advance for their co-operation and patience during this essential improvement work. There will be some disruption while this work takes place, but we would like to assure customers that every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum.

NI Water's customer relations team can be contacted via Waterline on 08457 440088. Customers with any questions on the scheme should quote "Farrans Utilities Water Mains Rehabilitation Programme".
