NI Water completes two essential Sewer Improvement Schemes

01 May 2012 15:57

NI Water is pleased to announce that two essential sewer improvement schemes have been completed. Firstly, a scheme which will service the new St Oliver Plunkett Primary School on the Main Street Forkhill and also a scheme to service the redevelopment of council property at Market Square Dungannon.

NI Water Project Manager, Michael Kennedy said:

“These projects are good news for the local community as they will improve the sewerage infrastructure and wastewater services in the Forkhill and Dungannon areas.”

“NI Water is currently investing approximately £3 million per week improving water and wastewater services throughout Northern Ireland and these schemes are an example of the many projects being undertaken throughout Northern Ireland to deliver a 21st century infrastructure.”

Meanwhile, further work also continues in the Forkhill area to upgrade the Forkhill Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW).

The work, which represents an investment of almost £2 million by NI Water, will enhance the service provided to the area by reducing the environmental impact of the Works while allowing for future development in the area. The work will also ensure that the plant meets the latest Northern Ireland Environment Agency and EU standards.

The work, which is scheduled for completion in summer 2013, will primarily take place within the existing site at Forkhill WwTW.

The contractor for the sewer improvement schemes at St Oliver Plunkett Forkhill and Market Street, Dungannon was Pomeroy based Quinns Automation Ltd. with technical support from Newry-based Nicholas O’Dwyer Consulting. The contractor for the ongoing work at Forkhill is BSG Civil Engineering Ltd.
