Final Stage of Armagh Sewerage Improvement Scheme Gets underway - Newry Road

04 July 2017 15:12

NI Water is pleased to announce the commencement of work on the final section of this major Project to improve the sewerage network in Armagh.

In consultation with the Department for Infrastructure (DfI), this final section of work on the Newry Road will commence on 22nd of July 2017 and we anticipate that the work will be completed by 31st July 2017.

Public safety is a high priority for NI Water, and in order for these works to be undertaken safely and protect the public, road users and construction workers, it will be necessary to implement temporary traffic arrangements.

The first section of work will take place on the Newry Road around its junction with Folly Lane. This work has been planned to coincide with a road closure, which will be in place to facilitate work by Firmus Energy.

Subsequent to this, construction work will move along the Newry Road towards Armagh City from 24th of July. This work will be carried out under a lane closure, which will be in place from Folly Lane to the Langs Road junction from 24th to the 31st July. Two-way traffic will be maintained with the use of temporary traffic signals.

Normal working hours will be 7.00am to 7.00pm however, it may be necessary at times to work outside of these hours.

Once complete, the scheme will meet Northern Ireland Environment Agency standards; reduce the risk of ‘out of sewer’ flooding; and facilitate future development within Armagh City for the next 30 years by improving and increasing the capacity of the sewerage infrastructure.

NI Water would like to thank the public for their continued patience and co-operation while this essential work is completed. Customer queries should be directed to Waterline on 03457 440088.
